This Freedom Ride was not just another bike rally. For starters, instead of usual black leather biker gear, the riders were decked up in kurta-pyjamas or navaris, saris and heavy jewellery to showcase their patriotic side.
The tenth edition of the ride was flagged off by National Award -winning actor Shreyas Talpade, at 9 am at Ribandar.
The bikers rode across 110km, from Ribandar via Chorao, to Calvin, Aldona, Mopa, Virnoda and Parsem, leading to Siolim, followed by lunch at Vagator.
The ride has through the years tried to raise awareness about topics like the environment, the ills of tobacco, and the importance of saving the Mhadei river, and this year’s special theme was ‘Special Status for Goa’.
The event attracted a cross section of people, including both amateur and seasoned riders, looking to take their bikes out for a spin.
Safety was ensured, with an ambulance on call throughout the route.
